I was lucky enough to take a class from Ursula K. Le Guin when I was a student at Stanford. Several of us writing students camped outside the registrar to get into the class. She taught me that the magic elements must integrate fully in any fantasy novel, and she culminated the class with a picnic. Years later, her essay, The Ones That Walk Away from Omelas would become one of my favorite texts to teach. My cat has an intense relationship with her last book. Here’s to a mind that transformed many of us.
